Reactions to Gruber: No Fucks Given
I don’t know, man. It could be. The more I read what you write, the more I nod my head; for example, maybe my buying habits really ain’t worth a damn in the long run. But it seems to me that Jobs HATED Google for what he saw as a betrayal.Gruber applying his typical polish:
When asked why there was no YouTube support at the moment in the developer preview, Apple told Pocket-lint: “We have Vimeo, and we don’t have YouTube.”
Allow me to translate: “Fuck Google.”
Ehh, or it could just be that Vimeo is a nicer service and…
“I will spend my last dying breath if I need to, and I will spend every penny of Apple’s $40bn in the bank, to right this wrong,” Jobs told Isaacson. “I’m going to destroy Android, because it’s a stolen product. I’m willing to go thermonuclear war on this.” (http://www.guardian.co.uk/technology/2011/oct/21/steve-jobs-destroy-android)I could be wrong; Profit could be the only motive, but with Jobs, I don’t think it was. I think there was genuine vitriol there. But seeing as how we’re past Jobs, is that vitriol still there? You seem to think it’s just business. But I’m willing to bet that part of those Apple University internal guidance things Jobs set up involve passing on his business “philosophy” about creating delighted customers and whatnot, but I’ll bet dollars to donuts there was something in there about destroying Google and/or Android. He seems like the sort of dude to plan for that.
